DOWNTOWN ARTS CELEBRATION: Artwork by Ocean City and Upper Township students will be exhibited along Asbury Ave. on Sat. April 25 and Sun., April 26th.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m., there will be free face painters, caricature artists and sidewalk chalk designs. Some members of the Ocean City Pops will perform at 1 p.m. and the Ocean City High School Jazz Band will entertain at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the vicinity of 9th and Asbury Ave. From 10 a.m. till noon, children can create their own artwork at the Fine Arts League on Asbury, 608 Asbury Ave. There will also be merchant sidewalk sales and restaurant specials.
On Sunday, the Fine Arts League will host a pastel workshop from 2-4 p.m. Cost is $5 and includes materials. For information, call 609-399-4662.
CHORAL FESTIVAL: Over 100 singers will be featured in a Community Choir Festival on Sat., April 25 at 7 p.m. hosted by the Ocean City Tabernacle, 5th and Wesley Ave. The program will also include individual choir performances. The event is open to the public. Admission is free. A free will offering will be accepted.
Participating choirs include Ocean City’s First Presbyterian Church, St. Augustine’s Church, St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Ocean City Tabernacle, the Young Cape Singers, Cape May United Methodist Church, Seaview Baptist Church and Cape May Court House Angelus Chorus.
Directing the singers will be Lois Likens, Linda Wheatly, Debbie Roland, John Gregory Bate, Gail Rodger, and Richard Stanislaw. Jean Ridgeway, Paula Dollahide, Anthony Chong, Debbie Roland, Julia Henrich and Ruth Fritsch will play piano along with Tabernacle Master Organist, Jeff Seals. Gretchen Sorenson will play the flute.
Members of the New Jersey Chamber Brass- David Seals, Brian Cook, Jason Reed, Bill Andrews and Joe Jacobs- will join the combined choirs. After individual choirs sing, all will combine for performances of Non Nobis Domine, Jacob’s Ladder, He’s Watching Over Israel (Elijah) and Battle Hymn of the Republic. CITY WIDE YARD SALE: The City’s Annual City Wide Yard Sale is set for Sat., April 25 at the Tabernacle Grounds, 6th and Asbury Ave., and throughout the City from 8 a.m. till noon. Maps of the City wide locations will be distributed Thurs. through Sat. at the Chamber Information Center, 16 E. 9th St., City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., and the day of the sale at the Tabernacle site. Deadline is past for the map but there may still be some places at the Tabernacle grounds. For information, call 609-398-4662. MARCH OF DIMES, March For Babies Walk: This five mile fund raising walk, set for Saturday, begins at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, goes to one end of the Boardwalk and back finishing at the Music Pier. Walkers receive a light breakfast and light lunch. Music and entertainment will be provided. The March of Dimes champions the health of babies, working to give every baby a healthy start. FREE CONCERT TUESDAY! The 70 piece University of Pittsburgh Symphonic Band will perform at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terr., on Tues., April 28 at 7 p.m. The Band will play a program of marches, overtures and a variety of numbers for all ages.
BOOK SALE: The Friends and volunteers of the Ocean City Free Public Library have scheduled a one day book sale for Sat., April 25 at their 15th and West Ave. location. The sale will run from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. Due to lack of space the number of books will be limited until renovations are completed at the library’s main location, 17th and Simpson Ave.
The Friends of the Library have also scheduled a tea at the Flanders Hotel, 11th and Boardwalk, on Thurs., May 7 at 2 p.m. The speaker will be local author, Mary Fran Bontempo. Tickets are $20. For information and tickets, contact Rose Marie Ricci, 609-399-1198.
BLOCK PARTY REMINDER: Our gala spring block party is set for Sat., May 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 5th to 14th Sts. on Asbury Ave. There will be over 375 crafters, food vendors, entertainment including free pony rides and face painting for children at the Tabernacle grounds, a new car show and public service displays. The show is juried to ensure that crafters display and sell only quality, handmade products.
